Hi, I was going to drain my central heating system in order to fit some new thermostatic valves downstairs.

Before doing so I was checking my valves upstairs to make sure all were free etc. The combi boiler and electrics were off. When I went to close off the towel warmer radiator in the bathroom I noticed that water slowly leaked from the two valves as they closed . It continued until I opened the valves.

I am guessing this should not be the case ! It also reminded me that I have had an unsolved slow loss of pressure on the boiler for some time. As this is the systems open radiator (i.e. not controlled by a thermostatic valve ) could this be the cause of the loss of pressure. Not noticed water leaking from there before but that could be due to this radiator being the constant hot one and small leak would just evaporate.

Or would you expect those valves to leak slightly when closed off while system still under pressure.i'e' I had not released the bleed valve.

Wondering if the valves need replacing although not that old !

cheers

Ray

Depending on the type, it may be possible to remove the knob and tighten the hex nut slightly in order to compress the seal around the spindle.

The leak seems to be from the thread of the valve nut.( I.e what turns to shut and open valve. Not sure I know what the you mean by the knob ? I can access the hex nut will that solve what I describe ?
