We have a Mira Excel bath shower mixer, new a couple of years ago. Has been a great shower, up until about a week ago when it suddenly wouldn't go above luke warm. We have a pretty new Vaillant combi boiler feeding it. I hadn't touched the boiler that day, and no other plumbing changes that I know of.
After a day of this, it went back to normal – nice and hot. Then the next day back to just being tepid again, even turning the temp control fully to 'hot'.
Very strange. So I followed the instructions, took the shower apart, checked the filters (both completely clear) and everything looked OK inside from what I could tell. Almost no limescale visible.
Put it back together and turned off the cold inlet, which allowed us to use the shower and just control the temperature on the boiler directly. Set it to around 40 degrees and the shower was OK – obviously not a longterm solution.
I called Mira and arranged for an engineer to come out under warranty. Due to come tomorrow. In the meantime I have been fiddling with the maximum control setting this evening. Turned the cold inlet back on. Lo and behold, the shower is running nice and hot. Boiler at 55 degrees and the shower coming through at at least 40 degrees I'm sure. Perfect.
So now I'm not sure what to do. If the engineer comes and finds it is all OK I get charged £75 callout fee because I'm sure he'll say there is no fault with the shower. Anyone any idea what could cause this kind of change? Am I going mad? The instructions have a fault-finding section listing various kinds of problems and solutions, but nothing quite like this.
I suppose the engineer will just say it is due to a change in cold water pressure? Or maybe just not believe me.
