My son bought me "Dark Side of the Moon" CD for XMas. Listening to it today in the car (fortissimo!) and indeed Shine on you Crazy Diamond and Duke as we speak, it has to be said they are pure class. I tried listening to some Genesis earlier, who pailed into insignificance.

Without posting youtube links, who does it for you?

IUf you listen to the very first track on DSOTM at full volume, you'll hear someone with an Irish accent swear.. Says something like "I'm mad,,, I've been mad for f****ng years." (almost drowned out by the crescendo at the beginning) One of my favourite Pink Floyd albums, but my favourite PF song just has to be their tribute to Sid Barrett "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."

Which part? :P

I could listen to the guitar solo near the start of part one forever and not get tired of it.

Yes.......class pure class and real musicians ... now we have xfactor boy bands (vocal only) twirling around saying " baby I love you" and they have world wide status

Couple of months ago I recorded the 'Delicate Sound of Thunder' concert at Nassau Coliseum. Watched it late one night over the Christmas break with my 18 year old boy. One of those magic moments.

Used to put it on the shop broadcast system when I was nightshift manager at a supermarket refit. One of the team of grid ceiling fixers (I think) called it suicide music (I replied - just wishing for you) :D :D :D ...pinenot

Have to say that, not doubting their musical ability, but Floyd was one group I could never get into. A couple of their mainstream, big hits were OK. However, the rest is quite boring and sends me to sleep. Tracks that seem to have no direction and drag on for hours.

I really did try to 'dig' them a while back, especially when friends put their albums on, but it left me cold and glad when it was all over. (Bit like a night in with Mrs WS :D )

Would have to be Zeppelin, Purple or The Doors (although they can ramble on a bit). And definitely The Eagles.

If you like the Floyd stuff try some of Roger Waters stuff. "Perfect Sense" has got to be one of the best ever. Look it up on youtube, the live version with PP Arnold is absolutely amazing.

Tom Waits
Roots Reggae
Dancehall (some of it )

Lots of 80s music eg New Order

But also , worryingly , stuff that I thought was naff at the time but I now find myself singing eg Duran Duran, Howard Jones.

I don't know how bad this might get. Or if it is gone too far already.

Thanks for the feedback - also a couple of ideas to look up. Must admit that I'm putting the volume up more and more in my car at each listening. I'll be getting some big woofas or whatever they're called soon
