Wickes pricematch... but not with toolstation

Picked up a piece of wood from my local wickes. Decided I'd get a box of drywall screws as I was running low and put the pricematch to the test.

Straight away cashier said no we don't match toolstation because there's one in the barking wickes (10 mins drive).

She repeated it several times, so left the screws I didn't urgently need.

How lame is that, I didn't understand the reason on the way home. Guess if you do a big shop best to check any price matching before you start

T&C say its at managers discretion but guess some have told their staff a pre-rehearsed excuse

i would be asking where the relevant clause that referred to this situation was and to be pointed to relevant paragraph before leaving or completing my transaction

they rely on people assuming the price match is cheaper without asking

I didn't even realise they did a pricematch (allegedly!) until recently.

If I had time I would have asked for the manager to make a point. But for saving £1.50 I'll just get TS to deliver for free. next time! (I have sent a complaint off however)

I think it's because Wickes and Toolstation are connected. B&Q don't price match with Screwfix for the same reason.

Part of the Travis Perkins group. I only found out about the pricematch because my dad gets them to pricematch with TS.. T&C say it's at managers discretion, must find out which wickes he goes too!
