Hi all,

I have a toilet with a Siamp bottom filling valve, as pictured

The toilet had been taking a while to fill, so after seeing many similar problems posted here I replaced the washer (old and new ones pictured).

Bad news is that now the cistern will not fill at all, with either the old or new washer. Anyone got any ideas as for things I should check?

Access to the bottom of the toilet looks a bit tricky, so if I can't fix the current valve what would I need to do to replace the whole mechanism?

Forgive me for asking a really simple question but are there any valves turned off?

A fair thing to check! :D

The toilet fills from the cold water tank in the loft, I had isolated the fill valve for this and drained it before replacing the part. I'd re-opened this to check the toilet, but I will admit I didn't wait for it to refill completely before testing the toilet (mostly to save myself the time and water to redrain if something didn't work).

Do you think I need to completely refill the loft tank to have the pressure required for the valve to operate?

It's possible that although there was some water in the tank, it had not reached the pipe that supplies your toilet, so yes would fill some more and try that first before moving on to airlocks.

Is the isolating valve a gate valve? Is it definitely opening?

So the loft tank is now full, and all other taps work (after a bit of gurgling!).

I'm starting to think that I've drawn air into the system and that is what is stopping the valve working properly.

If I carefully unscrew the valve while the system is full plenty of water comes out at reasonable pressure, so I don't think there is an airlock.

No idea why it isn't working, simplest thing is probably going to be to replace the valve.

Have you checked that the little hole that the float arm seals to stop the valve (pilot hole I think they're called) is clear?

By jove I think he's got it!

Took it all apart again, flushed it under tap and carefully poked a needle at the tiny hole on the back. Couldn't see any obvious blockage, but when I put it back together it seems to work.

Many thanks to all who have provided suggestions.

Hi, I have the same problem and have checked everything suggested here. Water comes out correctly until the arm to the float is clipped in and that stops all flow. Any ideas of what needs doing?
