Advising diyers to work on 240v electrical machines!
How do you plead? Guilty or not guilty?

Final response to you regarding this as I am getting bored.

I did not advise him to work on any electrical equipment, 240volt or otherwise. I merely suggested somewhere that he may be able to source a replacement component and advised him not to attempt what you had suggested.

As the O/P had already taken it upon himself to remove protective covers to ascertain the details of said component then it would be up to him to decide his next course of action. That may have been to replace it himself or it may have been to employ someone suitably qualified to carry out that task on his behalf. At no point in my reply did I elude as to what course he should take. You, on the other hand clearly instructed him to place himself in danger.

I rest my case.

I suppose Ellal can bring his new capacitor home and decorate the mantle piece with it since he won't know how to wire it in and would need medic's on stand by in case he injures himself if he did attempt an installation.

As many people will attempt electrical DIY work it is essential they have access to help and advice on how to design and install a system that is safe. An online source like this has been, is and will continue to be one source of such advice. It is more convenient than buying a DIY book or going to the library so is likely to be used.

In that thread it was not necessary to advise the OP to leave well alone as the task was achievable. In many other threads the OPs have been advised to NOT attempt the task and instead to employ a tradesperson to carry out the task.

I missed the thread but I think I get the gist.

IF a piece of electrical equipment I had went faulty, and its not under warranty then I would certainly be opening it up and attempting to repair it myself.

Been doing that for years, am still alive and still have the electrical equipment that I could fix to show for it.

Some - I even worked on when live/powered up....
