3 things that i'll pack into the oner...

FIRST:

We're resigned to the fact that we've been lied to that these circles wont show through as they are doing. The wall was damp before the plastering, however it never had mould speckles showing.
Are these even mould speckles? They look like it & have only just shown up in the past day or 2 (wall has been done about 5 weeks ago).

Which is in the left corner of this wall:

I've read stories of circles showing through before but no mention of mould growing on the walls too. Would you expect this?

SECOND:

We've only noticed today that the mesh (fibatape?) is showing where the ceiling meets the wall.
We got it done back to front (ceiling AFTER wall) as we wasn't going to get the ceiling done.
Is it 'ok' for the tape to show through? I haven't got properly busy with a paintbrush yet in the living room because a good chunk of it is now going to have to get ripped off. It's not going to start showing through the paint is it?

Then there's other sections in the middle of the ceiling:

THIRD:

We're going to try (again) to get in touch with those who carried out the work.
On this wall:

There are salts showing through:

I don't want to start accusing of something that is incorrect so i'm checking here first.
That wall was damp & what they've done is chipped out & bonded in with new plaster.

Those salts - are they natural salts from plaster (does that even happen?) or have they bodged a job, not treated the brick wall behind & the salts are now pushing all the way through?

I'm not worried over nothing, i'm not even worried, i just want to check a few things first.

Afraid this is not good.

If they just chipped out affected plater and replaced it, then they had no idea.
That and the poor quality of the work shown suggests that they knew nothing about damp In this context .

That is unacceptable , it needs doing properly but not sure how you are going to get them to do it right or give you your money back.

Thing is, they did have an idea. I told them in depth what the situation was. I even gave them the report from the independent damp surveyor & pointed out the suggestion if we were going the re-plastering route, which we were.

I've spoken to other plasterers since this & one said to me (& i quote) "oh dear, that's very naughty. They'll have known better. They've basically shafted you, done a quick job & legged it".

Well in that case this one will give you a chuckle....

In addition to that quote, the boss actually said they could handle our damp no problem as they've done it plenty of times before & can say for certain that this will work.

Looks like it didn't.

Work mates tell me i should get them back out to rectify. To be honest i wouldn't trust them with a brush!!
I'm seriously considering going to see a solicitor to see where i stand. My guess is nowhere & take it on the chin, but this has Pd me right off.

Still...

* Is mould on the dot & dab of a damp wall 'normal'? If not then we're going to have to look into this issue.
* Is it ok for that mesh fibatape to be showing through? I need to buy in an extension pole for painting but painting should cover it, right?
* The salts in that wall - does that happen on plaster or has the brick wall itself not been treated properly?

Could do with being a bit more armed before i get in touch with them as i like to be confident in what i'm talking about so that i can't be fobbed off.

Mould / damp normal - no

Fibatape showing thru - no

Salts from plaster showing thru -no

All sings of a badge job I'm afraid.

You could sort the fibagape easiy enough but the rest looks like a rip it off and start again.

Thanks for the feedback. We've resigned ourselves to it having to come off. Some walls are ok. The rear wall is ok but that's because it didn't have issues to begin with.
The window wall seems fine but there's a patch that simply refuses to dry out. It's in the corner away from sunlight so i don't know if this is causing bother but it's been 5 weeks now.

The other 2 walls are goosed.

How would you tackle the fibatape? Could you simply just paint over it & expect that to be ok? Or does it need some sort of fettling, if so ... what?

& i asked elsewhere but don't remember ever getting a response, what's this...

There's marks like these over the walls. When i paint them they show through...

That's just a mist coat
Now i don't want to waste my time painting the good walls only for me to come back & ask what's going on only for you guys to say - oh you should've done XYZ. If i should do something then i'd like to know now so i'm not wasting more time.

Looks like pva or something used on the ceiling after the walls were plastered?

Try scraping or sanding one patch off to see if it is on surface or coming thru.

Fibatape - Easifill (or filler) and sand down

Thanks a lot for your help.

Yeah i forgot to add - those splat marks on the wall that are showing through the paint (not the dab circles but the ones i just showed in my last post) only came about after they did the ceiling.

We did it back to front as we weren't going to get the ceiling done originally so had that done after the walls.

Just throwing this one out there. There is obviously no right/wrong answer...

Would you be inclined to get the guys back in to put the job right?

I've had workmates & family members saying get them back & put it right. It's cheaper than starting afresh.

But is it?

Personally i feel all trust has gone. I couldn't take time off work so once again they'd be left to their own devices & i'd have to trust they'd do the job right.
They've knackered the door they removed, the french doors now no longer close & we weren't told about that either, one of the floor boards has sunk & we were guaranteed something (the dabs) that couldn't be guaranteed.

The boss wants to meet to look at what we're talking of (have emailed them photos, but they want to see in person).

I have no problem with this. I think the wife is interested in them putting the job right. It seems i'm on my own. Maybe it's me who's wrong/paranoid/too critical.
