I don't have any facilities to cut it down either, which is why I usually use B & Q

But for each unit its costing me over £25 in wood alone, is there anywhere I can get this type of wood cheaper? It doesn't need to be white, can be plain or natural as long as its not mahogany / dark

I would think Conti board would be a poor choice for any animal enclosure, seeing as its chipboard with some melamine glued on. When any damp or moisture gets in at the corners it will just swell up and fall apart as presumably (no idea what animals you are talking about) the enclosures will need a wash down or whatever?

Painted ply will have a better chance.

would choose another board if you want it to last

if you can gtee no moisture will be in contact with any edge for more than a few mins you may get away with it

youi have never seen a hutch or "dorm" for pets made from white board for good reason

other bad reasons are there feet/claws will not grip impeading there natural abbility to safely scurry about

Rodent could chew thru it in minutes and you can't nail it together has to be screwed as it's not dense enough.

I can assure you that I have a number of housings already made in this way, the animals in them are hedgehogs, they are litter trained and there is fleece bedding down on the floor, so no slipping or soiling

They don't chew either (sorry not rodents either, but I assumed not many on a DIY forum would be familiar with the technicalities of pygmy hedgehog ownership)

I have bought a number of pre made units, but I want to build my own as it would be cheaper

I'm not sure, I always assumed it was the white contiboard....

Personally I don't care what its made of, I just need it to be cheaper for me to build than what it costs to buy one !

As long as it can be made into that what I showed in the photos, I don't mind what material it is !

I have too many rescues coming in to be fussy !

Have you considered large plastic storage boxes, easily converted and easy to clean.

You do not have cutting facilities, so you can either use a B&Q, Homebase (I think some have cutting facilities) or a timber mill local to you who will cut it for you. Try each for the best price.
