Hi

Like many others i've mounted a flat screen on wall and the power lead does not reach socket. As its a hard wired connection, i guess these are my options

- Extension lead (no good as planning on hiding cable with trunking, no room to hide behind tv)

- replace power lead from inside tv (no good as i'm not that capable!)

- Extend the length of lead by joining 2 pieces together (this is the one i'm thinking of doing and is probably easiest to hide).

If i go with the 3rd option - can anybody explain exactly what i must do. I've read that i required a 10 Amp 3 Pin Lead Connector. I'm guessing cut the end of existing plug, wire it to connector. Purchase another power lead (not sure???), cut the plug off that and attach to connector. Join connector.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How about replacing the 13A plug on the end of the TV power cable with an IEC/Euro plug (eg http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/6a-euro-line-plug-ft64u & http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/6a-euro-line-socket-n82cx ) which is a lot slimmer and suitable as an inline connector?
You can then use a normal PC/Kettle type lead to run from the 13A wall socket to the TV.

Thanks for that Ricardus, so would i just need the 6a euroline plug (replacing my 13a plug) and then a kettletype lead to plug that into, or do i need the euroline socket you also posted the link for for this to work?

If you have a kettle/PC lead (technically a kettle plug is slightly different as it's notched and designed for higher temperatures, but many people call your average IEC/Euro connector for a PC a kettle lead even when it's not) you won't need the socket, but if you don't have a lead you'd need the socket to make your own one.

Thanks again Ricardus, i dont have the lead but i'd rather buy one to be honest and save the hassle, will this suffice http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mains-240v-Power-Cable-Kettle/dp/B000Q8HG4Y

Just to clarify, is wiring the 6a euroline just the same as wiring a standard plug. If so i'm good to go.

This is one correct method:

You can use any suitable mains lead for the extension.
Use 2-core or 3-core to match the existing TV power cable.

I haven't watched this yet but it might be useful:

I would use the correct size insulated crimp connectors, staggered so they don't overlap, and insulate the whole lot with heat-shrink sleeve. This method produces the smallest diameter and is ideal for cables in conduit.

Have you double checked that the mains lead is " Hard wired" into the TV, most these days seem to come with a figure of 8 or Kettle type socket and you can simply buy a longer lead with the correct plug on.
I fitted both my Son's and Daughter's TV's on Dot and Dab walls and purchased a 3 mtr lead off eBay and fished it down the D & D and across to a socket with the help of some flexible cable fish rods.
Otherwise you could shorten the mains cable and use an in-line connector behind the TV and have one unjointed run of cable in your trunking from the TV to the socket.
