Hi
I have just had a new combination boiler fitted and I now want to fit a shower over the bath
The end of the bath backs onto a airing cupboard with the hot and cold water pipes in
So no problem with the supply
I just want to fit a shower valve in the bathroom and drill through the wall to connect the pipe work without causing any damage to the bathroom tiles as its recently been done
What's the best type of valve to fit given my situation ?
I'm not sure how thick the wall is so it would be handy to connect some copper tails to the valve fist then pass then trough the wall and plumb from the opposite side.
Hopefully I have explained this properly ? Any advice please
Thanks

Easiest is to get a combination bath mixer tap with a shower set but if that's not what you want.

Safest way to do it would be to use a 17mm diamond corer with a tile drill arbour to cut the access holes through the tile, then use a 16mm masonry drill to hole through to the cupboard, pipe in from the cupboard through to the bathroom, affix shower fixing kit to the tile then attach a thermostatic bar mixer. Just take it nice and easy when coring through the surface of the tile and use water as a coolant/lubricant.

Thanks for that reply, the problem I have is that the current mixer tap is on the end of the bath under a window so I want to fit a dedicated shower to the opposite end of the bath I have had a look at the diamond core drills for drilling the tiles so I don't have any problems with getting one to drill the holes I need
Looking at the bar mixers I can't see how they are fixed to the wall as it looks like the valve is just supported by the pipes ?
It would be helpful if you could point me to somewhere I can see the fitting instructions ?
Would this be the only valve that would be suitable for surface mounting on existing tiles ?
Thanks for the advice so far

this type of valve the body is fixed to the wall.

affix shower fixing kit
Yup, get a shower fixing kit , as suggested and as Denso mentions.

Yes, A bar mixer is better supported by the brackets of the fitting kit rather than pipes alone, that being said bar mixers are not designed to bear much weight so don't need to be heavily secured if copper. Plastic pipe should really use the brackets or a mount.
Once you have cored the holes in the tile, feed the pipe in through from behind leaving roughly 100mm tails. The threaded brass backplate of the fixing kit simply fits over the pipe and then screws onto the tile with 2 screws (get carbide tile drills for easy drilling). Trim the pipe flush, the chrome threaded coupling of the kit then screws onto the backplate bracket with an olive in between, nip it up, that completes the seal to the pipe. The shower inlets then screw directly onto the chrome connectors with the covers inbetween.

BTW, please remember when you fit a shower at the head end of the bath, the bath is usually sloped and can therefore create a risk of slipping when showering.
