Hello,

Got a open vented Y plan system with a Suprima 30 non condensing boiler (10mm microbore CH). & small rads in a 3 bed house. The feed vent are combined with an air separator. Came back from holiday (boiler off for a week) and noticed the above noises when the HW was turned on. Noises are loudest by the boiler flow and return pipes and in the cylinder cupboard where the valve, pump and air separator are. Noticed the FE tank is quite dirty which thought strange as system was cleaned a year ago. HW and CH are working fine and heating up in normal time - just a bit alarmed by the noise as was not there before we went away. Not had any work done on the system so cannot explain this - dunno what to do. Was thinking drain, refill, x400 but its a bit hot to have system on full for a day or so!

Have you checked that your F&E tank is actually connected to the system?

See FAQ here.

Presume you mean isolating ball cock, draining some water of a rad with the valve on manual and checking if the level of the tank goes down? ie there could be a blockage in the air separator?

Hello all,

Today I checked the tank as Tony suggested =- all fine so full drain down, refilled with x400 and CH/HW on for 4 hours now. Boiler is remarkably quiet now and gargling etc stopped within 30 min. Dunno what cause was but all ok now. Just one more question. When I drain the first time to get the X400 out, should the sysstemm be hot or should I let it cool. Cheers
