Matthew 5.39
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Perhaps I do, and it is you that does not understand it.

How is it in any way moral to own, let alone beat a slave?

You read it for no other reason than to find fault and blaspheme against the scriptures. So no, you obviously have no understanding.
Page after page after page of vitriol on here alone.

Can you answer the question? Why say it is vitriolic? It is politely asked. It is just you can't answer it such that it would make that part of the bible anything other than horrible.

Pot - Kettle....

I didn't say the question was vitriolic. I said you (and of course others) have posted page after page after page of vitriol. And b&b remains as calm as cool hand luke.

Problem being you cherry pick the good bits and ignore the bad.

The bible is a moral absurdity and is no more authoritative than the THe Diary of Adrian Mole.

a lot of this country laws are based on the bible, its a moral compass, not a moral obsurdity. your cherry picking something you dont understand, or bothered to studyit in its full context. before making a comment.
i gave you links , i hope you read it some day.

Now there's an easy trap to fall into.

Human society has rules of behaviour, which are sometimes called morality, to help people live together with a modicum of peace.

For example, not killing or stealing from people within your own group, not being caught committing adultery inside your own group, not eating or selling dangerous foods or materials, having a feast and celebration if you've survived the worst of a drought or a cold winter, lending a hand to people in trouble.

Religions take up these pre-existing standards in order to accommodate themselves to society. You should not fall into the trap of thinking that the religion has introduced them.

blimey 25 pages :)

religion generally the cause & rarely the cure ;) tis all a load of mumbo jumbo imho
