Decent/Cheap Builders Trowel for DIY Use

Hi,

I'm looking to get a cheapish builders trowel set for DIY use. Nothing in particular at the moment in mind but know I will need them at some point!

I've seen a couple of sets listed below which should both do the job for me. I was just wondering which one would hold out the best? Or if anyone can recommend a similar set for similar price.

Two are Carbon Steel and one is Alloy Steel.

Would rather have a bucket trowel than a cheapo float. But any of then are fine, it's only £15 you'll easy waste that on cement going hard in the shed.

I just got whatever wickes had and it was OK but dies get surface rust easily, I got a Marshall town pointing trowel and it was good but expensive. I think the main thing is it fits your hand well and get the right size for the job.

Regarding the cement going hard, I got a load of bin liners and desiccant and it does last longer. But if it's a really small job you can get the ready combined sand and cement, just add water. It saves a lot of time mixing and money for wastage.

Picked up this set from BnQ for 20 quid when I started laying bricks, and it's been great, though the big trowel took a week to get used to, til the muscles in my arm manned up a bit. Also found it helpful to take the grinder to the point and cut it off to a radius a bit more like a 2p piece - much easier to spread mortar with than with a sharp point

I would not think to much. Get any, you won't know the difference.

You certainly would if you bought the same Screwfix basic set that i did. Handle on trowel came loose in no time, and the blade felt like it was made of rubber.

Get Ragni. I bought the bigger trowel size and it did me very well. Depending on what and how often you're building, the trowel will wear down over time anyway, so it might as well be big to begin with.

If you buy a carbon steel trowel ,let the trowel go rusty first then clean it off and the metal will be black underneath and will not rust again.
It's called the patina trick and really works!
