Sewer Smells - AAV ?

Dear Sir's/Madam's (don't want to be sexest)

Recently move house, and I am getting "intermittent" drain (egg) smells downstairs!
particularly on the floor in the kitchen nearest the stack.

There is an AAV (Durgo) fitted to the main stack as image (boxed in besides toilet "upstairs)

All other traps/pipes exit via the main stack. The other picture, is the Kitchen arrangement with sinks /washer /dishwasher attached.

Any ideas what the problem could be???

Is there an open vent on the system? AAV's do exactly as they describe, Air Admittance Valves, they let air in, but not out. If there is a build up of positive pressure in the system, it'll look for the easiest way out.

As above but also check your manhole is clear.

An egg smell suggest sulphur, whereas a drain smells normally closer to ****e. No image supplied, but are you getting the smells in the toilet upstairs as well.

Check the sink etc for any blockages, and see if the water trap is getting sucked out, and is it a double drainer with a double water trap. Is the washing machine plumbed into the waste under the sink, or does it have it's own standpipe, and does the water stay in the bottom of it.

1st Hugh
No other open vent, as the main stack was cut down to toilet level by the previous owners after a bathroom re-fit and had an AAV fitted!
The stack is pretty much boxed in until you get to the kitchen, where it goes under the house into the drain system.

Can't get access to our manhole cover as it's under the decking. however checked in next doors "down the system" and all seams smooth water passing through drain o.k + drainage from sinks/bath/shower all fine.

No smell in the toilet, a bit strange sometimes around the AAV but no egg smell, this is just downstairs, but not all the time.
I have checked all the traps upstais and downstairs and apart from being gunged-up which i have cleaned, all working o.k. We do have a washing mashine and dishwasher connected to the downstairs sink waste (spaghetti junction).

Looking @ the undersink picture - it's a total wrong 'un. Spag. Junction all right - and laying full of water. It all needs coming out - the washer hoses should be raised to the top of the cabinet and then drop down for a start That conglomeration is probably where the smell comes from .

Why do people think its acceptable to cut down vent stacks, and cover over manholes? Both are there for a reason, and lack of ventilation on the system could be contributory to the current issues.

Rotten egg smell is Hydrogen Sulphide, not pleasant stuff. At least when you can smell it, its at a safe level, its when you cant you need to worry....
