Do I need a new boiler?

I was wondering if you can help me

I have a 2011 Vaillant ecoTEC plus 813 boiler in my house that I just moved to. It has been services every year on the service book since it was bought. I really don't have money to replace it, but the plumber says he suggests I replace it (with no specific reason given). Based 0n the model, year, and that it looks in decent condition and was only used an older lady, and does work nicely when turned on for water and heating. Do you think I should replace my boiler?


Please keep in mind, if I do replace it, I would only be able to replace it with one that would cost 500-600£

The boiler you have fitted would cost well over double that. A boiler from 2011 that works has absolutely no reason to be replaced.

Why was “the plumber” in your house?
Is he the same person who has been servicing the boiler, for the last 7 years or was he there doing something else and just thought he’d tout for a bit of business? If he is ‘the service engineer’, then simply ask him for reasons and report back here with what he says.

@dilalio the boiler was in the bedroom originally, so I got the plumber to give me a quote to move it to the kitchen, and as part of the conversation, he suggested I replace it, since he is "doing the work anyway"

You have good boiler and not that old , The main thing you need for long life is Magnaclean And loads of inhibitor so have you a Magnaclean it saves energy it keeps sediment or rust filling your boiler reducing life pump and the diverter and other components ,but your heat ex-changer loves it they quote 6% reduction in first 3 year with out one but it needs inhibitor , £85 to £90 + fitting put min 2 lots inhibitor in , also makes it easy to get inhibitor in your system , I am property landlord I saved thousands why , Magnaclean take care on other brands parts most times not available if seal goes etc , Going back to boiler I fit boilers I don't like Dissing others trying to earn Crust , But don't do it save up if you dont have one fit filter , also boilers what you going to get for £500 rubbish a boiler with Aluminium heat exchanger this is another large subject NEVER by boiler with aluminium heat ex-changer you have stainless top range self cleening your heat exchanger is Heaven tech dream , cheapest good boiler is Potterton gold stainless its a Baxi Duotec rebadged less guarantee average £650 28Kw save up for extra £150 ,most boilers around £500 are aluminium ,on another budget this will cause argument Biasi I have few long term never problem no aluminium old fashioned design and I too looked down on them but fact is they caused me no problems are cheap to buy £400/4Kw to £460 28Kw , Biggest selling boiler and full plastic and Aluminium Bosch fitters love them I DONT and class as junk but I own my boilers dont fit and walk , But you do not need new boiler unless your plumber knows something else . hope helps but fit Filter if not on ,
This article is my opinion and is non biased as I am not selling and not associated with a brand as I wear two caps owner of lot boilers and heating engineer more interested in efficiency and longevity than quick $ ,and there lot Good very plumber/heating engineers out there.

Only seen first article your moving it , Then yes change the boiler if it was problematic and or junk its not , You know if you were close I would buy your boiler off you refit it , so what would I do if you need new flue buy another or I can sell you the bit you need cheap I stock lots for every occation if he damages it getting it out But i repeat the boilers one best on market its not cheap or old so move it FIT filter buy magnaclean Pro and ask him to flush the system for few hours or days if its dirty cleaning your filter few times before dropping then put min yes more than 1 inhibitor in use good stuff not plumbers own brand unless multi chemical like Fernox Sentinel , why move it from bed room cosmetic or safety , its not safty issue buy a CO detector 10 year life put it near boiler BUT its pretty impossible to have issues with the boiler for safety its designed for safety millions are in use never a issue unless the heat exchanger is opened and seal damaged or not replaced , move it for only cosmetic if makes odd noise in night switch off comfort mode on hot water .in instructions waste energy as well .

I'd suggest finding a local, trusted, gas safe engineer or firm and having them also put a quote in for the move or at the very least a full service on that boiler which would uncover any issues. You can then use this information to make your decision... you may find the past 7 years the 'service' has consisted of sticking a gas analyzer in the flue and absolutely no more so it could be almost end of life however if it's been looked after properly (cleaned when needed, water quality checked) it'll probably be fine.

As ABC said, for your budget you simply won't replace it with a decent boiler and depending on where you are and other factors, labour and materials to move the boiler will cost you most if not all of your budget.
