Hello. I'm looking at some decent quality laminate flooring. The room is 7.5m x 4 and I've whittled my choice down to three as I want wide, long planks : Quick Step Largo, Balterio Grande and Egger Pro Long. Each are 2050 length.

I'll be fitting it myself (have done several previously) and it seems that Quick Step reviews constantly come up best in the fitting stakes but of the three it's my least favourite colour. Egger Pro Long is my favourite texture and it's also the cheapest but I can't find many reviews save for one comment that they do 'low end' laminates. Balterio is the most expensive and seems to come highly recommended too.

Nowhere can I find any information about the pattern variation on these boards - can I assume they're varied enough to not be obvious when laid? Also, I have noticed that the tongue of these planks are easily bent - is it the same for all laminates or are some manufacturers better than others?

Any opinions/advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I went with Quickstep in our living room, excellent quality and the boards have a very secure locking mechanism.

Was recomended by many people, one hashad his down for 10 years in his kitchen and still perfect!.

Thanks Keithmac, that looks good. Which Quick Step floor is it?

Have a look at quickstep majestic. Has the hydro seal built in. Great Lamainte.

Of the Quick Step I did prefer the texture and width of Majestic but it's a good £7 sq m dearer than Largo

Largo Good as well mate. Do you need the waterproof laminate ? Good for kitchens.

It's for the living room so not necessary, but I do like it. Might have a look round to see if I can get a discount. Thanks.

I can let you know Monday, have a spare pack in the loft. Got it from B and Q of all places, was on clearance and bought all their stock (luckily just enough) still wasn't cheap though.

They use UniClick fitting profile iirc, some of the other boards I had a look at had pretty poor locking mechanisms and didn't look like they'd last long when down!.

Buy right or buy twice as they say!.

I thought I'd decided on the Majestic but now I'm having second thoughts about the width. The living room is 6m x 4.7m, ceiling is 2.55m and not a huge amount of light. It's a Victorian terrace and perhaps at 24cm wide Majestic might be slightly too wide, too modern? Maybe that width is better suited to a bigger, airy contemporary style property. Largo is 20.5cm and seems proportionally more appropriate.

I know this is to do with personal taste as well as aesthetics but opinions/experience on choosing the right width would be appreciated! Thanks

This is 15.5cm wide, can't get to the loft tonight but could do in morning if you want exact board model and colour.

5m x 3m living room.
