We've bought this Ikea floating vanity unit and basin:

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products...w-countrtop-45x45-wsh-bsn-white-spr-09187852/

The entire load (unit, worktop and basin) will be just over 50KG and thats without any water in the basin and before the wife adds another 10-20KG of towels and shampoos etc to the drawers!

My question is, what type of fixings should I be using to hold this to the wall?

The wall is plastered masonry with tiles over the top.

I have a few M8 through bolts which I used to hold up a bicycle frame in the garage, but not sure if they'd be strong enough.

Does anyone have any experience with floating vanity units and the types of fixings to use?

Thanks

As long as there's a sufficient number of brackets attached to each side inside, I drill through into the wall with a 6.5mm drill bit and hammer a brown masonry plug right into the brick. Then I use minimum 70mm screws to attach to the wall. As a minimum, I normally use four brackets and four screws and a squirt of clear silicone on every edge that touches the wall, especially where the sink part touches the tiles.

The web page says Godmorgon legs are sold separately, so perhaps not intended to be floating?

I had a customer that wanted those removed, so I added 2 more brackets, silicone and screwed to the wall.

Have the larger 1000mm unit without using legs, added second mdf strut to rear at base and fixed thru end and centre to top and bottom (6 fixing points)
If you only fix to the two points as supplied the unit will sag and draws will not align correctly.
Just used standard screws ( mine is into studwork).

This is an instructional video from youtube showing installation and bracket treatment of a US Ikea Godmorgon floating vanity unit, albeit into stud wall.

The brackets are illustrated at 26.21

Thanks for the replies guys.

What I am a bit amazed by is that the guy in the video seems to be using pretty small screws to hold the unit to the wall (skip to about 19 mins in the video) Are those screws seriously enough to hold all of that weight up?

Maybe I'm being too worried over this, but I can't help but feel that I should be using something way more substantial that that...

I think I'll probably go with the earlier posters' suggestions and use six 75mm screws or bolts...hopefully that should do the trick. I'll report back to let you know how it goes...

Agree the screws used look too short.
