Electric tripping ??

My electrics keep on tripping but it has me puzzled.. started a couple of weeks ago and all ok for a few days but will trip 6/7 times before staying stable again.. the RCCB split load is the one that trips and this feeds the cooker upstairs and downstairs sockets... when it trips turn circuit breakers off reset the RCCB and the swith on the cooker all fine... sometimes try to switch upstairs but wont then will switch.. the same with downstairs.. unplugged lots of things but still happens now and again and when resetting today the is a crackling/arcing noise coming of the fuseboard... would I be right in saying problem is within the fuseboard?? bit lost really as my electrics are very basic........ thanks in advance

Can you post images of your board and which switches are tripping?

The arcing/fusing is symptomatic of the fault which could be anywhere in the circuits in question and/or the appliances connected or plugged into them. You should call in a qualified electrician if you are not confident about methodically eliminating causes from faulty appliances that plug in, like heaters or lamps, or from those that are connected, like your cooker; and definitely call an electrician if it appears that there is a circuit or fuse board problem, or if you don't know the difference

Is the cooker always switched on when you do the tests? That could be the problem and a dangerous one if a loose wire is creating a short circuit

I will struggle to upload photos...doh.. it is a crabtree fuseboard and when the RCCB goes i switch the all three mccb,s off ,reset the rccb then switch back on one as a time... cooker no probs ... but then try the downstairs sockets and it will trip,, try again and it wont... then the same will happen with the upstairs rccb... its intermittent... it will be ok but when the microwave got put on it tripped.. so i think its that, then eliminate that and put the kettle on and trips again.. this is all downstairs .. but then all ok and my son put his tv on upstairs and trips again, then all resets ok???? the mcb for the cooker and downstairs are crabtree are B32 61/B32 if that helps..

It sounds like a problem with the circuits rather than what is connected to them.

I am a DIYER and absent further advice on this forum suggest you call in an electrician who will have the diagnostic equipment to test the board, the RCD, the breakers and the circuit.

No - arcing happens at the location of whatever is the problem causing arcing, not somewhere else.

Get an electrician as a matter of extreme urgency.

Until then, leave off the RCCB associated with the circuit(s) where you can hear that noise.

I had in mind the description of arcing in an mcb in this youtube video (8.06 on) in consequence of a high fault current, and thought that this scenario might have applied to the OP.

I agree he needs to call in an electrician asap.
