Locked posts, what's going on.

I show 25 posts per page, of those 4 are locked, we have always had the odd post locked, but is seems to have become normal, of last 50 posts there are 7 locked, what's wrong?

Yes it stops an argument, but it can be carried on with another post, and it effectively stops the person who asked the question getting an answer.

Would not temporary ban on individuals who argue, both parties of course be a better course of action?

I did not even read all the locked threads, it just seemed odd, never use to see so many locked ones.

It is not critism that gets threads locked, it's insults and downright rideness.

To be honest I don't rate the moderation setup here as brilliant, it's very opaque, we don't even know who they are, there's no open debate encouraged or had about the values and purpose of the forum itself, and there's almost nothing (not up to date anyway) in the way of guidance and education even if we weren't to have an input into the ethos ourselves. It's supposed to be to encourage DIY apparently but various areas you'd get sneered at for not being a professional. That's not against the individual moderators as presumably they're working within the training they are given, but it certainly doesn't create an "Inclusive" environment. EDIT: although I just noticed one of the moderators thought it would be helpful to append a post title with "(warning, pointless squabbling removed)" which is a good example
Maybe the admins don't know how they want things, maybe they are just running it as a self maintaining thing while it's keeping the good position in search, but given none of us are paying for this perhaps that's all we can expect. Given better strategic thinking and inclusivity we could be much better.

Yes it does. It is the equivalent of using a kilowatt for an hour.
If the bills were in MJoules, (like cubic metres of water) the time it took to use it is irrelevant.
Like miles per hour; using mph, the only way you know how far you have been is to know how long you were doing it.

As EFLI has said, it has got everything to do with time. 3.6MJ could, for example, equally be expressed as kWm (kW-minutes) or kWd (kW-days) if you wanted (and the numbers would obviously be different in each case.

Sorry simple maths the seconds in watts cancels out the hours in kWh it just means the figure is multiplied by 3600 i.e. 60 x 60 which means using kWh the numbers are smaller.

I'm not really sure what you are concerned about. Yes, dimensionally, kWh and Joules are the same [both having dimensions of (ML²)/T² - e.g., in base SI units, kg.m²/s² ], the only difference being a constant multiple of 3,600. However, the reason we think in terms of kWh is because it's more convenient, given that the power of electrical loads is expressed in watts and are far more like to draw current for hours than for seconds. If we were used to buying, say, "2 kJ/s" fan heaters, things might be different.

There is not, as you seem to be suggesting, anything 'incorrect' about the 'h' in kWh - it's totally correct that 1 kWh = 3.6 MJ.

Of course time comes into the matter. 1kWh is one kW for one hour. or 60kW for one minute.
