Came across a 35 year old cast iron conventional flue boiler that had the flow and return crossed into its tappings. It worked OK all this time. No banging and user had no complaints. Now been ripped out for a modern boiler. Only when the new boiler was installed (flow to flow, return to return) was the error found.
