I'm looking at a Mitre saw (see previous thread) and considering one of these. It'll be this or the makita of similar price. As Much as I like Makita tools, the bosch is winning.

If you do have one of these though, how much room do you need - odd question as of course it has dimensions easily available.

What I mean is: the dimensions state 460mm depth, but I can't find the max travel required i.e. 460mm depth fits on a kitchen worktop (which is what i'm using for my bench top) but the how far back will the saw travel. What state is the blade in to give 460mm??

will a 610mm worktop give enough space? or will it be sitting on the edge?

I will be making rails etc with T-Track in and would hate to end up with 30mm of usable bench space. Yes I'll be making shelves etc in the room at the back but still want to have enough space on the bench to do other projects. Especially as i'd like on end to site the saw and the other end to be made into a table router area.

It says cutting capacity is 312 cross cut, and 460 static.

Add the two together and it'll be somewhere near. 772 ish. I'd have guessed about 800 before thinking about it.

If you need to conserve bench space I really wouldn try and find one with a fixed back.

ah simple enough, didn't know if it was central position or something like that.

might not be the best choice then. bugger

They list the dimensions as 47.3 x 85.3 x 44 cm.

From memory I paid about £250 with the folding stand. I got to cut 305mm composite decking. I couldn't justify the cost of a much larger blade saw.

For the price I paid it is great but the arms bend which makes it rubbish for cutting accurate grooves in wide bits of timber.

as an aside
my dewalt slider 712
is about 700mm head forward to the lever at the very front and needs about 240mm for the rails space at the back so nearing 950
so suggest 460 may be folded size
remember its the front feet off the machine to rails back position you need for clearance and thats 260mm from front feet to machine table front handle on my machine
in otherwords i need 680mm from the back wall to front feet not the full 950mm

actually your one says depth 910mm not 460mm

ah poop. Gunna be too big in reality.

to be honest it's probably overkill anyway.. I very rarely make things from anything over 45 x 95mm as I tend to frame with C16 timber. I don't want to buy something and regret not buying something bigger but perhaps it's worth just have a normal mitre without the pull capacity.

so really, anything that can do 100 x 45 on a 45degree angle would be ideal.
