Hive Install on Main 24 HE Combi Boiler

Hi All,

I'm looking to install a Hive Thermostat, 1 channel reciever onto a Main 24 HE Combi Boiler.

Looking a bit of advice on how to connect up? I've installed a Hive on my previous boiler which had an external timer connected so that was an easy switch over. This has an internal timer connected into the boiler and just want to double check I'm in the right place before messing about with it.

Looks like this at the internal timer connection on the boiler (see pictures below) would I be right in thinking I would wire it up like the following?

BOILER - HIVE
BR: (Brown): Perm Live - L on Hive
B (Blue): Perm Neutral - N on Hive
BK (Black): Switched Live In - Heating On (3) on Hive
BK (Black) : Switched Live Out - Heating Off (2) on Hive

Where does the common go?

I will probably run flex from the PCB rather than using the wiring at the timer connection as from memory the receiver will be too big to fit inside the boiler so will need to be mounted externally.

Any guidance appreciated.

Common is your switch Live in. Don't connect anything to terminal 2.

To Clarify:

BOILER - HIVE
BR: (Brown): Perm Live - L on Hive
B (Blue): Perm Neutral - N on Hive
BK (Black): Switched Live In - Common on Hive
BK (Black) : Switched Live Out - Heating On (3) on Hive

Would you happen to know a preferred place to mount the receiver? Will 1mm 5 core flex be OK extend wiring to new receiver position?

1.5mm is recommended. Not sure how big the Hive receiver is, because I don't fit Hive due to it being ****, but a Nest receiver will fit inside a Main Eco quite comfortably, just above the diverter valve. Other than that, immediately below/beside the boiler is as good a place as any. You need 1.5mm flex

Sorry but both nest and hive receivers should be 300mm away from the boiler or any additional electrical appliances fridges etc this si to stop signal interference between the thermostat and the receiver

Don't touch the timer wiring ,just keep it on constant
or if you have connector block as shown in picture , disconnect timer wiring and connect black wires in same block, brown and blue separately ( check picture 1)

For single channel Hive
boiler live to hive live
boiler N to hive N
boiler E to hive E
boiler 1 to hive 1(common)
boiler 2 to hive 3 ( heating on -NO)
remove link from boiler 1 and 2 terminal
Check picture 2
