Does anyone have any particular recommendations when it comes to overseeding the lawn please?

My lawn is thin in places. I've applied a 4-in-1 feed (day 5 now) and am awaiting results. I assume my next course of action to thicken the lawn is to spread seed? Most of my lawn is out of the shade but there is a corner which is shaded by tree and the fence.

In addition, I have a couple of brown spots where I can spread some top soil and throw in some grass seeds too.

I would appreciate your advice and recommendations on the above please.

scarify to remove thatch, then some top dressing and seed.

I ended up buying fleece and some wire clips to hold it in place. The first lot of seed I put down was all eaten by birds.

The grass seeds grew well under the fleece.

Thanks @Notch7.
Do you have any recommendations on the seeds I should use please? I brought a "standard pack" from the local garden centre last time and I can spot that grass a mile away! Should I mix or buy a mixture of seeds and also, do I need to make any special provision for the shaded areas?

I would suggest going for a mixture with some dwarf ryegrass

If you can get it, a shade tolerant grass is poa supina -if its only slightly shady a mixture with fescue might be good.

I would avoid the fine lawn seed that is ryegrass free -it needs quite a bit if looking after to achieve a fine lawn, wheras the dwarf ryegrass will give a rich green colour and is hard wearing.
