Hello all,

anyone got any suggestions for this?

We're trying to replace the two signing-in / out books (one for each entrance to the building) with a better solution.

Ideally, would collate visitors onto a single list of who is in the building, for evac. roll calls, drills, etc.

TIA

Brigadier, good evening.

I am a member of a club, we have about 100 Members, the sign in book is a mess.

One of our members has located and is in the process of installing an electronic sign in / out system where either a fingerprint or a sort of a key fob is used to access the facilities.

What is of interest is that the club is strapped for cash, so this system is not expensive to install, it does not have a high security capability, and it will not cope with "visitors" [that I know of??]

Problems as our committee see it are a "possible" resistance by our members to give their finger prints to us? so at present we are opting for a key fob system.

if your organisation has an IT department they may be able to assist?? even a swift search of the internet may prove useful ??

Ken.

Thanks Ken,

Just an idea that someone on here may have knowledge of a solution.

I've done a Google search, and nothing jumped out as a good fit.

Our I. T. department are an option, but God can they overcomplicate things:eek:

I know what you mean about the IT [MOB] talk in jargon and you can get away with anything?? then they "experiment" with odd ball ideas that cost a bomb?

There was another idea at my club, it is cheap to embed a chip into an identity card, the type you wear around your neck on a lanyard or similar.

I will try to get a hold of the clubs electronics wizard and see if I can get some names for you.

What systems do you already have? If you have something like SharePoint (Office 365) or ERooms they have tools that let you do that sort of thing easily with minimal it involvement. In the Microsoft space the tool you want is PowerApps.

For non corporate use its it's harder as you tend not to have the existing infrastructure. For those you should look at cloud services, small businesses struggle with IT and if you've no budget you're stuffed.

For sign in / out stuff you need something that lets you have a simple What you see is what you get form editor with a database backend. Microsoft Access equivalent.

Our work ID cards have chips in them which sat as a payment system, operate the printers, and open doors.
There must be a cheap system for stuff like school attendance ?

Cheap? I laugh hollowly at cheap. You'd need scanners at every point of entry with connections to the servers and redundant network connections and off-site servers as if there is a fire your data center can't be assumed to be online. Especially in schools.

For visitors then you just have to beat paper records, which may or may not be the thing that is on fire. The cloud works quite well for that.

You might be able to DIY your own system using the RFID chips, but unless your time is free then I'd go COTS. Probably from the same vendor as your existing access control. The reason your work cards are used for everything is because they control access and can do the rest as a nice-to-have. The rest wouldn't pass any ROI assessment.
