Mole - can't seem to trap the little sod

I get moles in my garden from time to time. I usually use a scissor trap to kill them but I have one smart little beggar who is defeating my best attempts to send it to mole heaven.

In short, it keeps mounding up soil around the scissor traps. I check them every day.

I know about keeping your scent off the trap, etc. I've also tried other traps in the past (tunnel trap springs to mind but I hate using those as setting them is a huge pain and they trigger way too easily, sometimes whacking my fingers).

Any tips please on trapping this mole?

I used to have a piece of high tensile fence wire (5mm) that I would use to pierce the ground to find out which way the runs were going.
Then I would know the best place to put the trap.

We currently have a mole, the cat brought a live one home, I rescued it and let it out of the back door without thinking. You can guess the rest!

I'm hoping the cat will get it again.

Then I would know the best place to put the trap.

Finding the runs is the easy bit (I use a bamboo cane to prod the ground and find the locations, then dig a small hole and place the trap). It's catching the elusive little beggar that's the problem.

Check either side of the trap for a clear run and set trap a couple of foot away.
If a mole spots any sign of light it gets suspicious so I use an upturned black plastic bucket which not only excludes light but keeps the soil dry .

Thanks for the tips, I do cover the holes with upturned containers, they're not black though, I'll see if I can find something black.

I'll also look into the Talpex trap.
