Mrs Mottie has just had an email from the president of the urbanisation where our family villa is in Spain basically telling us that due to a rise in infections in the Valencia region, masks must now be worn at all times when in public. There are certain exceptions such as when in a car with members of your own household (but not others), when sitting still on beach or when walking to and from the sea when on beach (but not walking along the beach) and of course, when eating. It says that the fine for not complying with this rule will START at €100 per person and will rise steadily in cost the more the person argues with the officer. It goes on to say the fines will be welcome towards public services but that the perpetrators may be shunned by those that do obey the rules. They don’t **** about over there - I wish we could be the same over here.

I can never understand why this government gives at least 2 weeks notice they are going to 'introduce' something.
E.G. Anyone not back in the country by a certain date, (I've forgotten what the date was), will have to self isolate for 14 days. I know one of the caretakers my wife gives work to suddenly rushed back a week later so he wouldn't have to self isolate. My own 80 year old FIL said last night he will go shopping on Wednesday and stock up so he doesn't need to wear a mask in shops on Thursday, and he is not the only one to hold this view! My wife popped into town this morning and she said it was heaving compared to a normal Monday morning, and very few were wearing masks, gloves etc.
When they decide to do something it should be implemented within 24-48 hours Leaving it longer is just raising the risk of someone bringing it in at a later date.

Using buses for convenience, for short journeys I spotted numerous people after it became mandatory, not wearing masks on the buses. I complained to my MP, I complained to the bus company, I complained to the local transport metro and got absolutely no where. Bus drivers are not responsible for ensuring those getting on wear a mask, all they can do is ask them to wear a mask and if they refuse and they feel strongly enough about it - call the police, but that never happened, no one was ever challenged. That does seem to have changed slightly recently, I have seen a couple of drivers half heartedly challenge passengers getting on, but they were easily fobbed off.

In London they seem much keener, at so it seemed on TV, where passengers were removed from buses by the police and issued on the spot fines.

Another UK hating thread - disgraceful.

The UK is the best place in the world and everything they do is the best in the world.

If you don't like it go and live somewhere else.
You're so racist.. and xenophobic naturally

Certainly is compared with Johnny foreigner land.

I fail to see where either myself or Mottie are saying we hate the UK.
I personally just want them to act quicker to try and stop/reduce the chances of infection spreading.
I have no desire to leave the UK, merely be a bit more staunch in their stance against things which they are asking people to adhere to and implement them on a shorter time basis. What is being achieved by saying something will be put into place in 3 weeks time? Why not put it into place sooner? Does someone have to write all this down in long hand before it becomes effective?
Give me one good solid reason why, especially in the face of a pandemic, delaying a tactic is a good idea?

It was sarcasm. That is the usual cry from the jingoists when anyone criticises the UK.

As does anyone else who criticises the UK.

I have no idea.

Perhaps doing it in March would have been better.

It's quite simple...

People in European countries by and large are better educated, and are better able to/more willing to 'follow the rules' if they are more often than not told the truth!

Flip that on it's head and that's the UK in a nutshell :)

I'm surprised you can stomach staying here. Ever thought about going to one of these much more educated countries? You could take your family and have a much better time of it away from here. Lot's of really clever people just like you.... You'd fit in well. Why not give it a go?
