'A' Level grades - how about a sensible discussion....

Driving the route of the test is more realistic than mock exams, unless mocks now have the same questions as the real exam. The point is, 2020 exam results will be tarnished, through nobody's fault. The best thing would have been to take the exams in the holidays, plenty of time to have them spread out to keep social distancing.

Students taking exams were always socially - distanced anyway (to stop cribbing) (y)

No lack of places next year, quite the opposite...

Brexit will make sure of that given the drop in EU students that has already happened on top of Covid!

Not what waS said on the radio

There arguing about this caper on the radio

 dunno tbh

One thing they have said is due to the record number of passes and a lack of uni places some have been deferred to next year?

apparently there will be a knock on affect for next year's students??? Due to this year's mess

There will. Be a lack of uni places

Why stop at giving away top grade A levels, to sort the shortage of Uni places this has created, why not give them a 2.1 Degree as well, God knows they've earned it, and to balance up any social injustice, let's make sure pupils at private schools are given lower grades.
In fact, why even bother having schools or Uni's?

Not when I was young, during O Levels the kid next to me wrote 'don't know' as an answer to one particular question, I made the mistake of putting 'nor do I' as my answer.

Universities are in a financial mess due to Covid and having to pay back large amounts from empty accommodation and fees.
EU students pay the same fees as home students so although they add to the numbers, they aren't a "cash cow"
Non EU students pay a lot more but Covid will put many people off coming.
I'm talking English Universities.

Universities are having to modify their teaching styles, practical subjects will be heavily impacted by Covid restrictions on numbers and social distancing. Adding even more students into the mix because of the cock up will add a bit more cash into the system but at the same time cause Covid issues with potential overcrowding

I know of at least one uni that is implementing pay cuts of 5/10 and 15% on all staff along with pay freezes and a policy of non replacement of staff to fill the cash flow hole

I bet the Vice-Chancellors will still be on half a mill a year.

Now, here's a funny thing....

"The chair of Ofqual threatened to quit this week unless Gavin Williamson publicly backed the exams regulator and admitted it was behind the U-turn that salvaged millions of student grades, the Guardian has learned.

Roger Taylor’s ultimatum came after the education secretary tried to lay the blame for the exams fiasco at the door of Ofqual following a humiliating climbdown that scrapped A-levels and GCSEs awarded by algorithm."

In other news,

"Gavin Williamson was personally told in JULY that the exam grade system was flawed but carried on anyway - as minister insists algorithm did NOT unfairly downgrade poorer pupils despite it being scrapped"

What's any of this to do with NHS doctors?

Nothing. That's why it's on the Exams thread.

Have you got it now?

You must be a very sad an lonely person to copy my posting from one thread to another. Especially when the OP topic asked for a 'sensible discussion'. You just can't manage it can you.
