Hey,

I have a tropical fishtank and I use the shower too fill up the bucket.

However I'm wondering if they is any attachment anyone knows of that I can attach to shower, then attach hose pipe when required to make fishtank clean quicker?

Shower is a Galaxy G1000LX

Thanks.

Quick disclaimer - don't know - never done it.

EDIT>>> DO NOT DO THIS AS NOT ALLOWED AS SIGNIFICANT CHANGE OF DIRTY WATER BEING SUCKED BACK INTO YOUR DRINKING WATER

I would leave shower hose connected.
Take off shower head.
I THINK the end of a shower hose is 1/2" BSP female.
and
I THINK the inner diameter of a garden hose is 12.5mm

So you need a 1/2" BSP male to 12mm hose connector (and a jubilee clip) like this:

Doing that would be illegal under the water regulations, because extending the hose could allow the foul water to be syphoned back into the water mains.

Harry,
Very good point - forgot that - and no one wants fish tank water pulled back into house drinking water.
Noted in my text above.

Bit confused how dirty water would end up back into the system people, if it's only being use with clean water :s

Edit: if you mean water siting in hose for along time, that won't be the case because only gets connected when I need too use it. Also don't water remain in a normal shower head anyway?

There are very strict rules in the UK regarding back syphonage into the water supply, showers must be fitted in such a way as the hose/shower head cannot be immersed in water, particularly if fitted over a bath. Similar rules apply to Ball Valves, garden taps, and any other device that takes cold water form the main supply.

Issue is, should there be a failure in the mains supply, (burst pipe or similar), there there is a risk the loss of pressure in the system, (or even negative pressure) created as the system inadvertently drains due to the leak, then should a shower, garden hose, etc be immersed in a bath, garden pond, etc, then dirty water could be sucked back into the supply, contaminating drinking water for everyone nearby.

There are issues in some areas I believe with people who want/have Douches fitting/fitted for religious washing after using the WC, many are illegally installed with no backflow prevention, but the householders are not taking kindly to being told they need to remove them.

Would you be happy drinking the water from your fish tank?

That could happen if your mains water pressure fell to zero and it would begin syphoning water from your tank into the public mains water supply.

Your shower has a short hose, so that its head cannot normally fall below the water level in your bath, for the same reason. Imagine drinking your bath water.

Sorry if I'm being stupid, but I still don't understand.

Maybe I wasn't clear on what I want?

It sounds like people think I'm going to be leaveing hose connected too tank or something..

If my fishtank was in a kitchen for example, I could connect my hose pipe outside and then use it too fill up the tank like many people do... I'm wanting too basically do the same thing put with a shower instead of a garden tap.

Difference is, the outside tap should have a double check (non return) valve fitted either in the supply, or the tap itself, to prevent any risk of back syphonage. Your shower doesn't have a check valve fitted.

I'm still finding it hard too see how fish water could end up in the system when the hose pipe wouldn't come into contact with dirty water.....

The point is that it could - you become distracted whilst waiting for it to fill, drop the end of the hose in - net thing you know, your water pressure drops and begins syphoning into the mains.

Illegal for a very good reason!

Okay that makes sense.

I know nothing about plumbing so sorry if the questions are stupid.

So post above says outside tap will have none return valve, isn't it possible to get an attachment with that?

You could fit a Non Return valve in between the shower hose and your hosepipe. Will need various fittings to join it all together, but if you're serious then can soon advise what you'd need.

Yes please, that would be great. Clean tank weakly so would save so much time and less mess.

You might be better off installing the doublecheck valve in the mains cold supply to your shower. Is this an electric shower, by the way?
