Testing that the controller is live and working?

I won't argue with that statement, per se, but, in reality, it will only be a 'fire risk' if/when the CU/meter or something associated catches on fire, in which case one presumably would have a problem even with a tidy./empty cupboard - at least, that's what Mr LFB seems to believe, because I haven't seen or heard any suggestion that domestic CUs only have to be 'non-combustible' if they are in cluttered cupboards :)

Each to their own. I would personally imagine that there are far more likely places for fires to start than in meter cupboards - even meter cupboards full of junk.

Kind Regards, John

Got an electrician around to fit it. Only £30. Thought it would be expensive. Learnt loads asking him questions so gave him another tenner for putting up with me.

He said Ieave cable long incase more changes are needed.

He said to check rcd u press the two blue buttons in every six months. Not sure what happens if there is a problem. Keeping old controller as this one looks complicated

Nothing. And then you get him back. Maybe tea and choccy bikkies rather than a tenner extra next time.

What should happen is the RCDs trips and all the circuits on them go off, so dont do it after dark or when someones in the shower or the DVD player is recording, make sure you switch off or hibernate PCs etc.
