Hi all,

I've recently completed my basement conversion so I'm looking at the next job.

Our loft is prime space for conversion, however, with a dormer window, that would give sight into the neighbours bathroom (via their velux) where they shower.

I can't find any planning reasons which prevent us carrying out this work and believe our neighbour will just have to install a blind, which we'll happily pay for.

Any thoughts?

Lo

It's against planning rules, or was in 2015.
from memory, when i did mine, any new side window above ground floor must be obscured glass and non opening below 1.7m from floor. We put in small fan lights for light.

Roof / Velux doesn't seem to follow this rule though.

This might have changed since.

thanks for your reply, it wouldn't be a side window, hopefully the attached plan view, crude sketch better illustrates the layout

If rear window then should be no problem, unless you're feeling generous of not offer to get a blind, as it might make you sound in the wrong, or they might want money for a new obscured window....

No Planning rules for rear facing windows.

Your neighbour does not ‘have to’ do anything. If they want a blind, it’s down to them to pay and install it.
