I have 1995 Schuco windows, mahogany effect inside and out. They are 'ok', but I sense noise levels have increased, and therefore air-tightness levels presumably have decreased.

Are there any quick fixes; and is there any point, economy-wise (payback etc) in having new throughout?

I suppose I'm thinking retirement-proof etc; but also aesthetics, with what's on offer these days.

Thanks.

Where might I investigate finding the right seals Alec? My port of call for new units (they have started to go) says he can't supply them. The original company still exists, worth trying them? Finally, is this a diy possible job? I can do most things.

You could get much better u values with new double glazing, provided existing are 24mm or more.

Soft coat low e with warm edge spacer and argon gas fill would make a difference.

Up can has a lifespan of around 25 to 35 years, but provided the plastic isn't breaking down they should be ok.
