Triple glazing

Is there a big price difference between single and double glazing on a standard window (no bevelled glass or leading). Bedroom dorma window that measures 4m long is double glazed but not very good in terms of sound proofing, wondered if triple glazing was worth the extra money assuming the price difference wouldn’t be massive.

I would add glass and aluminium "secondary" double glazing to the existing window, not replace the whole unit unless it's way past it.

Obviously the existing window needs to be in good condition, the dormer needs insulation for sound.

Triple glazing needs to be 36mm or ideally 44mm to be any good for thermal qualities.

if you want to improve sound insulation you would be better off replacing the existing for units with 6.3mm lam on the outside, soft coat low e inside. Or even acoustic laminated.

secondary is also a good way forward.

Do you have trickle vents - they let through noise.

are you sure its not the dormer structure letting noise through - if it’s road traffic noise, it’s very hard to stop low frequency noise getting through.

Didn’t know about secondary glazing, unfortunately the window is not bad in a good way, both locking mechanism are knackered so both couldn’t be locked and just opened when windy. And after trying to repair something dropped off them both so now handle doesn’t work at all. The other dorma window is letting water on bottom left corner so think we need two new window units. I would say the noise is probably just coming through the walls or dorma, only mentioned triple glazing as I read it has better sound reduction properties. Is double glazed unit and secondary glazing cheaper then a triple glazed unit? I’ve just read that secondary glazing can be diy job so will look for some videos on this

If the DG window doesn't close properly, that is the first priority
Ditto the building fabric.

Secondary will beat double glazed units due to airgap

At work we use double glazed control rooms but the glazing gap is 12"

I’ve measured my window and make it 2440mm x1000mm, it’s a double fixed centre and then the left and right panes open inwards. Is this a less used sized as I’m googling it to get a rough price so I can figure how much this might cost but windows seems to only go up to 1700 wide. Silly question perhaps but can you join two 1200 wide windows together or would it need a middle support, if 2440 is more bespoke is that going to cost a lot more? Only planning on standard glass, white both sides and happy to have fixed left and right but with over vents.
