Soak the original cartridge in lemon juice - it will remove the limescale, allowing it to seal, assuming it it dripping?

No. Compression ring wear actually. Happens in hard and soft water areas.
We have soft water with loads of dripping noisy taps.

Quite possibly, I agree - but nine times out of ten, dissolving the limescale has resolved the dripping ceramic cartridges for me.

Besides, lemon juice is usually to hand in most homes and costs just pennies - versus a few pounds and time to source a new cartridge.
