Not satire: Tory MP asks for payrise and reveals grim reality of living on just £81,000 a year

There are massive shortages of GPs

partly due to Brexit - we had lots from EU.

oh and Tory politics - make universities privatised, so they become profit centres. Anybody with a brain would realise if you want more GPs, more nurses offer free training and better working conditions

Really?

Our local GP's surgery has 5x doctors & none of them work a full week at the surgery. I suspect they are so well paid they don't have to. Strangely, I can book an appointment for a paid for treatment almost instantly at any time mutually convenient.

I agree that some/most university courses should be free, like they used to be. I'd also like to see industry & commerce sponsoring more students as they progress towards their qualifications. I'd also like to see any student benefitting from a tax payer subsidised education actually sticking around in the country long enough for the tax payer to be rewarded. The US loves our highly qualified graduates & it seems our highly qualified graduates love the US.

I like to think of the UK as just one big employee owned company, run by a board of directors (MP's) with a chair (PM).

I like to think that we selected those directors for their talent & abilty to run the company on behalf of us, the employee's.

I'd like to think that running the company is more than a full time job requiring an extreme of passion, dedication & stamina, I cannot imagine any director having the time to run other companies & still be focused on the job.

I cannot imagine the employee's selecting a director or chair from the qualities of their hairstyle or sexual preference, or rejecting an applicant because their ears are too big & their eyes too close together.

We've got what we voted for, another bunch of mostly self serving liars.

Sometimes though with job applicants, you are left with the choice of the best of a bad bunch as there are no other alternatives and you HAVE to pick one.

I agree. The job seems to attract only those who we really wouldn't want doing that job.

One of the major influences in the success of a company is the quality & culture of its management.

Shut up Notch, Tony Blair introduced Uni tuition fees, he might have been a Tory at heart, but he was working for the Labour party at the time.

Wrong as usual.

Universities became profit making machines after the cap on tuition fees was tripled from £3,000 to £9,000 in 2012.

Vice chancellors of unis are on CEO saleries.

Fancy new halls of residence are springing up erverywhere….all privately run.

Care homes - run by big business
NHS - private healthcare cos - run by big business
Universities - run by big business.

"Bottomley thinks MPs, who are paid £81,932 annually, should be paid the same amount as GPs – whose average salary in England is £100,700."

MPs don't have to bother with all that knowledge and qualification thing.

Ask the scum-gobby labour woman who left school at 16 with nothing.

I'd trust most people over Boris. But I wouldn't trust her to know how to run a tap, or do it without her boilerplate ranting.

MPs should earn far far more.

then they should remove all second jobs and all lobbying….then we might have less corruption

Maybe, but to describe adult children in their 40s as dependents is just bonkers.

Of course.

MP salaries is a political hot potato, so for decades they haven’t been increased much.

instead MPs have increased their income by ever increasing expenses, lobby money and “consultancy fees”

MPs :ROFLMAO:

one of the few jobs were you don’t need any qualifications what so ever

just get a load of people to trot down to some school hall every 5 years to vote for you

and all those voting don’t really give a ***t

As long as they said candidate belongs to a particular political party  they will vote for them

Tony Blair introduced tuition fees, end of.

I've googled about tuition fees and the answers I get say that they were brought in under Blairs government. Does Notch know something we don't? Or is he bluffing like he does when caught out lying? :cautious:
