First top flight black player I seem to recall / remember was Clyde Best (?) who played for West Ham

Another was Laurie Cunningham who ended up at Real Madrid ( I think) or was it Barcelona ??

Was it jot an Italian club...

Remember Clyde

you’d lock 14 year olds up for 30 years for racial abuse........ And you reckon the average english supporter isn’t very bright:LOL:
I'm relatively sure, no sorry I'm 100% sure, that I didn't mention English supporters.

Contextually, it's pretty clear I'm referring to the would-be gangsters and not football fans when saying I'd lock them up for decades, it's with reference to the OPs linked article.

The reason I don't watch television any more is that it tells me, persistently, that I am a racist and that there should be more black people. It is brainwashing.

Anita Rani, presenter of Countryfile once said, on Countryfile, that Britain used to be a racist country. Because Countryfile is a BBC programme it is watched by millions, many of them impressionable and ignorant of history. These millions will take Anita Rani's statement as a historical fact. This thread, especially the title "how far we have come as a country" is spreading the same message.

Black people should be eternally grateful to be here. This country has freed and elevated them. (You will never see a white person in government in Pakistan or Saudi). Black folk are in a very privileged position - they can do no wrong, because if they do something wrong and you complain about it you get called racist, and that settles the matter!

Do not pander to these propagandists. We British are doing nothing wrong.

I remember Clyde Best as the first black player i watched, too. Him n' Greavsie were a dynamite duo for the Irons.
Laurie Cunningham went to Real and was tragically killed in '82, when he was hit changing his car tyre on the hard shoulder.
Big Cyril Regis at West Brom was another player i admired and United fans of a certain age *ahem, still remember how he destroyed us at Old T. in December '78.
The first black player i recall in red at Old Trafford was Remi Moses who was part of the deal that brought Robbo from West Brom in '81. The first European player i recall at United was Arnold Muhren, who played in the great Ajax side of the early Seventies.
I never saw colour as an issue. If they were good enough, they played, and i supported them as United are my team. Even if they leave i wouldn't insult them. No matter what Shankly claimed, It's only a game after all.

You could get your point over I'm a more subtle way but there is alot if truth in what you say..... because I say this I'll be called a racist

Spot on I remember all those players Cunningham and Regis were fantastic players.

Ipswich had some great foreign players. I was so excited when Chelsea signed Peter Borota what a character sadly is now dead...

Yes Shankly was wrong.
