In response to the long running consumerism topic...

Since we are as the BofE has admitted going to enter a period of 'stagflation', then finances for most will be stretched...

So what did you decide not to buy today, or indeed put off buying?

Or buy less of/downgrade?

To start the ball rolling, I decided not to buy a new combi drill/impact driver kit and ordered some 'after market' batteries for my existing ones instead.

Only time will tell if it was a false economy

I didn’t buy a story about someone on here taking in a Ukrainian refugee family. I didn’t buy it yesterday and I won’t be buying it tomorrow.

You truly are a nasty trolling piece of sh*t!

And no doubt you would like any topic that shows you up for what you truly are to be closed or censored...

Now not that it is of any concern of yours, but in the tiniest hope that you read (understand?) the following maybe you'll then stfu!

Over quite a considerable time we have been working our butts off trying to work out the best way to help a Ukranian family.

We have shared interests in property and one became available. We have been in negotiations over the government funding and with insurance companies as regards liability given the 'non letting' circumstances...

We are paying half of the outstanding rent (costing us approx £250 pm) for 6 months and then we'll see how it goes from there.

It was a better option than a couple of spare rooms at our place but it is quite near so hoping to develop a relationship and help out where we can whilst giving them their own space...

So maybe I should have posted this in the 'what have you bought' topic?

But what exactly have you done to help out mottie?

After all you have had all that taxpayers' money sloshing around...

Will you put it to a good cause?

Excluding yourself of course!

I'm four years+ into my current handset and am being pestered weekly to upgrade and renew my contract. Trouble is they need the handset for at least an hour to move all the clutter I've accumulated over the years.
Keep meaning to spend a Saturday morning but as usual, things crop up. I'm busy this Saturday too.

I didn't buy any Jersey potatoes - because neither the Co-op nor Morrisons had any, and Thursday isn't a market day for us. Instead I made do with boiled potatoes (which we may all be getting used to soon)

I also didn't buy a shower curtain, but that's because 'er indoors wants to go and see and touch the selection.

And I didn't buy a 5.5mm SDS bit after finding that I still had one at the bottom of my tool tote. That'll teach me to look harder next time

Finally to make the day complete we gathered up all the loose coppers accumulated around the house and I purchased the local paper, a copy of the I and 'er indoors's TV listing - so that's £3 I didn't really spend because it was a windfall (and the local shop was glad of the coppers, rather than having to pay the bank for them)

All in all a successful day of not buying, I'd say

Good idea for a topic @ellal (y)

I never bought a French loaf today

( matter of principle  )

Bloody cheek. It went to a very good cause. I had a nice holiday and bought some premium bonds thank you very much. ;)

Sounds like you are thinking of using the Ukrainians to cover the rent on a council property with rent arrears that you have moved out of. Nice move - I like your style. (y)

Still not quite clear from your post though whether you have them installed already or whether that is the latest 'plan'. My friends daughter just took them in. No long, drawn out negotiations over government funding or negotiations with insurance companies for them.

So what is it with you - are they actually in or are you still 'negotiating'?

In a similar vein to the OP regarding batteries - today I didn't buy a new Remington shaver. My old one now 5 years old works perfectly except the rechargeable batteries were holding very little charge. Into RS Components for a new pair of batteries for 3 quid. Half an hour's work soldering in the new batteries - saved myself £60. And saved the planet. ;)

I didn't buy a new car with my premium bonds winnings. Mind you, £25 wouldn't even fill the tank with fuel.
Should have bought a moped - you'd probably get 2 or even 3 tank fulls with all that dosh

I didn't buy any Jersey potatoes…
Our allotment manager is going to get a load in for planting next year. I’ll be growing them. Apparently they can’t be called 'Jersey Royals' if they don’t actually come from Jersey, but Jersey Royals are actually just potatoes called 'Internationals' or so he tells me.

I didn't buy an Apple Watch 7, because there is a new model coming out soon and I'm still sulking about the "waterproof" but not warranted water proof Apple Watch 6 that died after a swim in a pool. I found an Apple Watch 6, 30% off at curry's. which will do me until I stop sulking.

I did not buy a new patio door (see DIY disasters).

I got a quote for £2.25K and that put me right off.

Having been self employed, I know all about costs etc., but think that quote is excessive.

Tried to get a window doctor type company to repair it, but no one wants to touch an old aluminium framed door.

What do you guys think?

You knew it didn't do the job you'd expect it to, yet you bought another one?

I'd have tried one that was warranted as waterproof!
