Hi, my Mira electric shower hasn't been used for years but is still plumbed in. Recently it started making a strange noise - it sounds like water coming through an overflow but I really have no idea what might cause it - tried turning it on and it's no longer working - stays on for a few seconds and switches itself off again. Any hints please? I'm panicking a bit because I'm going away in a couple days and hoping nothing's leaking...

Is there any easy way to close off the water supply to the shower unit without ripping it out and leaving a massive hole if that's the problem?

You would need to trace the pipe back to the tee branch and disconnect it from there. If you’re that worries about it leaking just turn the stopcock off. Are you sure it’s the shower that’s noisy?

Thanks, I removed the shower, closed off the pipe end and turns out that wasn't the problem. I can't turn it off because someone has to stay and cat-sit... A professional is coming to have a look tomorrow, I thought I could rule out the toilet being the source of the noise by turning off the isolation valve leading to that. If that's turned off and there's definitely no water coming into the toilet then that should definitely rule that out, shouldn't it? I'm hoping I'm wrong 'cos otherwise it might be something more difficult with the old pipes behind the walls.
