Connectors/adaptors: where to find

Hi All
The lingo to use is half the battle here, but here goes...

I have had a recliner diagnosed as having the 'transformer' (29v 2A) go u/s. It's an oldish suite, so happy to have a go myself. The problem: my transformer uses a round connector like lots of laptops have, and the replacements (cheapies) all have 'flat and a pin' connectors.

I have a good imagination, so I'm picturing a short adaptor to make my problem go away! Does such a thing exist? Where?

Thanks for looking. My fallback plan is to cut n paste the old to the new. Metaphorically.

if you are replacing the transformer itself are you talking about the output DC I assume 29V

do you have a photo of your connection ?

None that I have seen (or at least there are some, but there are so many types of round connector and flat and a pin' connectors that it is near impossible to match.
Also you need a good connection when you have 29V 2A - so do not want a loose connector.
So agree with your suggestion that you cut off a good length of wire and the round connector from the broken 'transformer' and cutoff the 'flat and a pin' connector and replace with the original round connector.

Also: Is your transformer 'AC' or DC 29V - send us an image of its label and its connector.
What replacements (cheapies) are you looking at - send us links - we might be Abel to suggest better ones.

Practically speaking that is probably the best plan.


Ensure the new "transformer" ( which I assume is an electronic device ) is suitable and can cope with any peak loads from the motors in the recliner.

Mine have speaker plugs, seems an odd selection, one flat spade and a pin,

is that what you have?

Also mine is a DC power supply, not a simple transformer, and it has two PP3 batteries so you can get out of the chair in a power cut.

Mine has this, the others seem to have ones looking like your pic.

If DC make sure you get the polarity correct on the cables

If you get a new power supply with a 2 pin din speaker plug connection (which is what the two pin plugs actually are) then you could fit this

do you have any shops locally that sell recliners etc? they may be able to source one from a disposed of chair
