Hamas could end this war tomorrow but it's not in there interest
I agree that the war should end tomorrow but where is the incentive for Hamas to surrender or release hostages ?
Netanyahu has said that he will agree a pause to facilitate the release of hostages but after that he will hunt down Hamas militants even after the war is over.
So where is the incentive for Hamas to surrender.

Yes, Israel could end their "war" tomorrow but they don't want to.

They want to kill or expel all Palestinians and remove all trace of their towns and cities.

It is not a war against a sovereign nation.

So where is the incentive for Hamas to surrender.

The incentive would surely be the saving of thousands of Palestinian lives, a caretaker government involving Egypt and Qatar and the opportunity to build anew a sovereign nation and to have their own elections.
The removal of Hamas would be the price to pay.
Once this happens, Iran has to be stopped from funding these militias, Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis.

The initial immigration into the region that became Israel was illegal, when Lord Moyle a British diplomat tried to stop it, he was assassinated by Zionist terrorists (opps, shouldn't call them terrorists).

They were terrorists and Moyne's assassination helped prompt the British withdrawal and handing the problem over to the UN, who put forward the 2 state solution, which Israel accepted.

It could have all ended there.

According to the perceived wisdom, Hamas doesn't care about civilians.
Hamas need to be given a way out in order to achieve peace, Israel by now, has had its pound of flesh, their dead have been avenged.
If Hamas has nothing left to lose they will fight to the end.
Half the population of Gaza are children, do we wipe them out as well?
They are the next generation of militants /terrorists unless something is agreed.
Hamas is only a brand name, the next generation may use a different title.

Hamas don't want peace, I think you understand that.

The British pulled out because they realised the hopelessness of the situation.
It isn't the Palestinians we are fighting, it is the Arab world.
Those Arab nations who have made peace with Israel, have done so out of self interest, once the balance of power shifts, they will not be so conciliatory towards Israel.

I suspect as we continue to move away from oil, more Arab countries will be more conciliatory toward the West in general.

Apart from Iran obviously. Head of the snake.

The Israeli's aren't happy about it and even less so the victims families, the soldiers responsible will be devastated beyond words, but if it brings a little sunshine into your life John?

Here's an example of "self defence."

Notice the whoops of joy.

Bringing a little sunshine into the lives of Israeli soldiers.
