Sorted out a slow puncture on a family car yesterday.

I took the wheel off and found both a small screw head and a thin wire spike in the tread centre about 14" apart.

Took it to local tyre centre and the fella said they wouldn't repair the punctures because little feathering cracks on the tyre's shoulder rubber.
The fella said its illegal to repair such a tyre.
The tyre had about 3mm of tread left and x2 punctures was £30. £59 for a new one.

New tyre fitted and all is well. Presumably the tyre's rubber has to blemish free for a tyre centre to accept responsibility for any puncture repair?

3mm depth they recommended replacing and cracked edges is a mot advisory.
Yeah. Tyre needs to be in good condition for it to be repaired and low tread and cracked edges would not be suitable

£59 for a new tyre!
What are you running .. a go-cart?

Our mk4 Mondeo are £60 each.
I know someone with Audi paid £750 for 4.
I'd sell the car. Too rich for me

I paid £400 fitted for 4 Michelin cross climate on a 3.0l A6.
And £240 for 4 toyo tyres on an A3.
Just need to find a good offer.

That's about what I paid for four X Climates on my old E39 three years ago, wouldn't get them for that price today!

£100+ to £140 a corner for mid-range summer rubber now, I steer clear of budget brands.

If that is total tread depth - and not just usable- then on a cost per mm tread, the new tyre ( inc fitting ) is both better value monetarily ( inc fitting ) and you have the advantage of running on a newer, less puncture-prone tyre.

The tyre size in question is 195 55 16.

The tyre centre I went to stocks budget new and part worn tyres. We've never had bother with them, a sole operator who's been in business for 40 years or so.

The annoying thing about tyres is, even if new, you get a puncture close to the shoulder or wall, it has to be scrapped.

Not many of us have equipment at home to take a tyre off the rim and put it back on :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
