New design plastic bottle tops.

Yep. Blame the EU, it’s their rule. Probably cheaper to make them all the same instead of a separate one for the U.K.
No, blame it on the stupid A-holes who never put it in the bin, as ever the minority ruin it for the majority, same reason they won't take your spirits bottle security doodars off before you've actually paid for them at the checkout for example. Everyone is treated as a criminal at the checkout but who can blame them?

I think its a great idea. Saves the tops being thrown anywhere and everywhere!

I havent had an issue drinking from them either. Top doesnt get in the way.

Who is it that are drinking their coke and then travelling to the nearest river or sea and throwing the lid in.

To be fair, I just rip the feckin lids off, I still attach them to the scrunched up bottle prior to disposal though.

Yep me too but many wont which is why it is stupid idea that is going to make the problem worse as there will now be 2 bits of bottle top.

To save plastic getting in our rivers and sea/ food chain we should put it in land fill or burn it and stop sending it to sh1t hole countries who just dump it.

The Tories didn't have to adopt it. But they did.
Nothing to do with the last government. -----
"While it’s an EU policy to get rid of them, it has had knock on effects in other countries. Companies mass produce bottles and caps so it is complicated to make different styles for different countries. As a result major drinks companies are also rolling out the new caps in non-EU countries, like the UK, even though they are not legally obliged to."
