Story about a haulage contractor who ran dodgy trucks, one of which had bad brakes that killed two blokes after smashing through the central reservation and into a car coming the other way on the 62.

The bloke running the company got 15 years and the driver 6.

But: two questions....why should the driver get a lesser sentence when he knew the lorry had dodgy brakes BUT STILL DROVE THE F**KING THING?

The dash cam audio caught him saying the brakes were bad....

I have done thousands upon thousands of commercial miles in anything from CDVs to 7.5 tonners. And before every journey, I have done walk rounds and checks.

If I knew the vehicle I was asked to drive was unroadworthy, there's no way I'd climb in the cab.

Also on the programme, a rogue builder ripped off a lady. Her final comment in the article was, "We got my Nephew who's a builder to help us finish off at cost..."

One wonders why she didn't ask him to do the whole job.

I haven't seen the case so can't look up the sentencing remarks, but I suspect the company owner was also guilty of "corporate manslaughter" gross negligence manslaughter.

The drivers while aware that there were problems, may fear losing their jobs and have no role in vehicle maintenance. So for them its the driving offences and knowing driving an unsafe vehicle

Causing Death by Dangerous Driving 6 years = Driver (age 22) (who had reported the defect, but was instructed to carry on).

Operator 15 years.
Gross Negligence Manslaughter - knew about the defect and told the driver to carry on.
Failing to Ensure the Safety of Others, contrary to Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974

I dont know the answer to that

but I do know that its right the person running the company gets the harsher sentence

Seriously, I'd rather lose my job than live with killing people.
F**k that ....

So how come those who run UK PLC are allowed to get away with killing thousands due to underfunding the health service?

Or get away with killing innocent people by dropping bombs on them in illegal wars?

The NHS isn't underfunded, Wes Streeting is cutting 2000 managerial jobs to free up money for front line staff, which is a problem many of us have been pointing out for years.

Or get away with killing innocent people by dropping bombs on them in illegal wars?

What makes a war illegal?

Would you care to tell us then why there are record numbers on the waiting list for treatment?

Or the record times waiting at A&E?

Or the record times waiting on average to see a GP and the ever rising patient to GP ratio?
Immigrants. Mrs Mottie and her fellow transcribers are forever typing DNA (Did Not Attend) letters for consultants along the lines of: Mr Zokowoski was unable to attend as he was at home in Poland…. That is a VERY common occurrence.

Surely there must be a solution to that. HMRC have sent me approximately 4000 texts and emails to remind me to fill in my tax return, and it helps!

How about a list things they can do at short notice instead, when someone doesn't attend? 6 months I've been waiting for a telephone call appointment with them to tell me the result of a test; 5 times they've cancelled it and rearranged only to cancel again; it's picking up a phone, and I'd take the call at any time..

There must be a technological solution to this problem; having the NHS be able to see your location on appointment day, you get a phone call 2X hours before, if you're more than X hours away from your appointment place, and as soon as they calculate you cannot possibly attend your appointment on time, they give it to someone else. I'm 5 mins from my docs/hospital - I'd sign up to be a queue jumper because I literally can drop everything and go take some no-show's appointment..

I always get several text reminders whenever I have an appointment with an option to cancel if I can’t make it. It must be very annoying when people don’t respond and an appointment slot is wasted. When that happens they are referred back to the GP and the patient has to go through the whole referral process again which just adds to the queues.

Perhaps a per-surgery or per NHS-region thing because I don't get any form of reminder

Seems ludicrous given the cost of an sms vs the cost of a wasted appointment

Indeed but equally, there must be some mitigation possible .. I always wonder, if so many appointments are missed, how come I turn up on time for a 3pm and have to wait 45 minutes because they're running over? Maybe use the wasted slots to catch up!
