There are some elections on 1st May.

In an effort to make voting more difficult, especially for the young, our previous government mandated photographic ID.

So have it ready on voting day.

You can apply for a certificate if you haven't got anything suitable, or even "just in case" you can't lay your hands on your passport or whatever.

showing voter ID is essential.

When I took my daughter to vote for the 1st time she was gob smacked that previously there was no checking .........

Do you mean "photo?"

How many cases of voter fraud do you think occurred in the previous general election?

Do you think it was more, or less, than the numbers of voters who were turned away at the last election?

Not half as gob smacking as the successful prosecution statistics for voter/electoral fraud in the UK. Out of millions upon millions of cast votes over a say the last four years in the UK, how many successful electoral fraud prosecutions have there been?

Anyone care to guess?

why is it more difficult for the young ? i havent seen any 18 year old without some form of photo ID as they all carry it to get into pubs and clubs these days

I cannot see many young voters without a passport or having a drivers licence. I do not believe this is a way of deterring voters at all. If it is it isn't much of a way of stopping anyone voting.

I'm glad you mentioned that.

Your bus pass, your blue badge and your driving licence, or your Older Person Oystercard are accepted.

What sort of people have one or the other?

What sort of people have neither?

What sort of people have a Young Person's Railcard, or a Student Union card, or a student Oystercard? Which are not accepted.

around 85% of the population of the uk have passports

i would imagine very few 18 year old have a bus pass ;)

only the ones that got caught
So what figure would you pluck out of the air to give your idea of the 'problem'?

And what demographic would you be likely to blame for your 'perception' of 'fraud'??

Progress is voter ID

Get over it.

your guess is as good as mine but by its very nature its only those that get caught are found out

You sound like you’re giving info to help the 'young voters' on this forum. Out of interest, are there and sub 25 year olds on here? Are they into DIY these days?

My guess (which is backed up by multiple studies) is very very few...

It's a problem that doesn't really exist, but politicians always like to gerrymander by whatever means they can get away with!

For example in 2024 there were less than 500 reports...

However 64% of these reports were related to campaigning offences!
