all,
Just about to renovate our front room and need advice on how to avoid horrible cables everywhere!

We’ve an old gas fire in a fireplace we are removing, so will have an empty fireplace with a chimney breast.

Plan is for the TV to be on the chimney breast. My son will use the room to play his PS console, so I am working through options for where to house his console to avoid messy cables. Will obviously need a plug point and an hdmi port.

We could create shelves where the fire currently is, and run a cable through the flue and to the shelf? Though the PS4 is tall and awkward.

Alternative idea is to run a hdmi wallface outside the house and to the left (for example) then back in for the PS to sit on a shelf/unit - allowing us to make the fireplace more decorative?

Any thoughts on the wbove, or other ideas very welcome!!

Presumably, by "PS" you mean a PlayStation console. (Abbreviations should aways be explained - for the benefit if the "ignorant".)
A PlayStation Console is just a "box", which needs to sit on a shelf/table/floor,
be "powered"
and
connect to a "display", via a HDMI connection.
(Other connecting cables may be required, for external speakers etc.)

The PS4 "unit" will need to sit "flat" - somewhere.
(From https://device.report/manual/4848477, I cannot see that it is "tall and awkward.".)

Running cables "through the flue and to the shelf" may be "excessive".

The PS4 and the TV display will need to be "powered".
How do you propose to supply 230 V AC to the TV display, plus any antenna - or other "signal" connection
and
from where?
The source of the "supply" (and any other "signals") may be more of a problem than just "running cables through the flue and to the shelf",
since there is no Socket-Outlet nearby in the picture supplied.

You may need to create a "channel" in the plaster/brick-work - for the Power Supply, at least.
Else, install cables in a "duct" - but, from where?

What is a "wallface"?

You still need to get Power Supply (and possibly "signals") to either or both devices.

PS4 can be long and low or using the accessory that comes with it, thin and tall

bear in mind the flue may be very dirty and also may not rise directly above the fire opening, I have used the flue for this purpose a couple of times (and currently contemplating doing so at home), when a friend tried the same thing he couldn't work out why the weight he dropped into the flue didn't appear in the fire opening. This sort of arrangement it fairly typical

I like to put in a big duct (at least 50mm) if all the cable (apart from the mains) is going to the same place.

If there are no mains sockets nearby, consider dropping down the flu from the room above.
