EU calling for respect.

And you call me a conspiracy theorist:rolleyes:
It would be awfully upsetting for you if it turned out, I was speaking from a position of having researched the topic………oh wait a minute:

Digital Populism: The Internet and the Rise of Right-wing Populism

Digital media has played a significant role in the rise of populism, often facilitating the circulation of far-right propaganda. Accordingly, I’ll next focus on the background of far-right extremism in media. A special consideration will be given to how far-right actors have mobilized across various platforms, particularly in Europe

The rise of right-wing populism: diagnosing the disinformation age

From clicks to chaos: How social media algorithms amplify extremism

This is called “algorithmic radicalisation”, which shows how social media platforms coax users into ideological rabbit holes and form their opinions through a discriminating content curation model.

Anti-immigrant rhetoric of populist radical right leaders on social media platforms

having researched the topic
"do my own research" - isnt that a trope you have levelled out to people who think man made climate change is bolax
Look at the state of some of those websites no one has heard of. You live in your own echo chamber radicalising yourself.

When houses became investments rather than homes was a major factor.

Not solely, but very significant.
The thing is, how can that be stopped (if we even want it to be?) There would need to be some form of cap applied somewhere.

What happens when a country imposes economic sanctions on itself?

A = the economy suffers.

Which demographic suffers the most in a poor economy?

A = the poorest in the most deprived areas
and still Rachel from accounts went ahead with the plan anyway.

What a surprise, Aveatry the angry little conspiracy theorist attacks the source without even looking at the articles, who wrote them or the experts involved.

Motorbiking thinks increasing minimum wages is economic sanctions
Motorbiking thinks increasing employers NI to give £20b+ towards NHS is economic sanctions
Motorbiking thinks paying Junior Drs a below inflation pay rise to stop them striking is economic sanctions
Motorbiking thinks the U.K. being the fastest growing economy in G7 is an indication of economic sanctions

Motorbiking spends too much reading the right wing propaganda Daily Telegraph.

Yup so so predictable - that is the reason I said SOME

The others however ? Only self radicalised nutters seek out those types of sites in order to validate their own perceptions. You need to seek some help old man. (Hint -- you wont find it on a DIY forum )

It is almost impossible to be stopped.

If we look simply at house prices, what price would they have to be go be affordable: let’s 50% of their current value.
There is no political party that can win power by saying: “we are gonna make housing affordable by halving prices.” …….that’s not a vote winner

The only real solutions (ignoring the above conundrum) are Land Value Tax or mass council house building programme.

Getting the private sector to build more houses won’t lower prices….if prices started dropping they would stop building.

Setting rent caps won’t work…private landlords aren’t getting the returns they need now, all it would do is push landlords out of the market and cut rental stock

Stamp duty cuts, giving borrowers chance to have low or zero deposit etc are all helpful in theory, but it creates more buyers and prices go up

It’s possible we could have mortgages done a bit more like America, they have 30 year fixed rate, which means it’s not putting market risk entirely on the borrower. That might actually help.

I honestly don’t know of any real solutions……maybe a massive housing crash caused by some apolitical event.

How can it be stopped?

Knee jerk answer : build more houses.
Reduced demand equals reduced price.
Would need additional measures, but would be a start.

Would we even want to?

Who wants high rates of house price appreciation?

Investors.
Those who already own, and want to feel wealthy.
Those who are already on the ladder, and want to climb it further (not appreciating that, as their house goes up £150k, their next move has gone up £250k).
For them, it truly is a rat race.
