It's a very sensible concept. If a college admitted only top mark students at GCSE and turned out top scores at A level it is doing an ok job. One taking average or low GCSEs and delivering top marks at A levels is doing much better.I have just been reading that two Muslim faith schools in Blackburn top the national tables for something called "Progress 8".
It is to help identify the 'value added' by the schools.
