School scraps Easter service to respect other religions

I have just been reading that two Muslim faith schools in Blackburn top the national tables for something called "Progress 8".
It's a very sensible concept. If a college admitted only top mark students at GCSE and turned out top scores at A level it is doing an ok job. One taking average or low GCSEs and delivering top marks at A levels is doing much better.

It is to help identify the 'value added' by the schools.

Well, the Eastern Orthodox Church claims to adhere closest to the teachings of Jesus as proclaimed by his brother James, so maybe start there and work your way out
Oh I've tried, and failed, which also makes it my fault.

I see no evidence for any gods, that'll do for me.

You doubt, Thomas?
When the Rapture comes you'll be sorr-reee!
Along with the pickers and choosers, we can all hold hands and burn together, forever.

What a nice guy...

Well, the Eastern Orthodox Church claims to adhere closest to the teachings of Jesus as proclaimed by his brother James, so maybe start there and work your way out. The split in the Roman Church after the fall of the Roman Empire is well documented but the division could really be traced back to the differences in interpretation between Paul and James.

The main difference I thought was something to do with the Holy Trinity, and whether the Holy Spirit is given out solely by The Father or by both The Father and The Son.

You can for any selective school. Most state schools aren't allowed to select, either at all or to the same degree.

If you want to preserve selective schools because they give better education then that's not an uncommon opinion, but religion shouldn't be able to parasite off it as an excuse to keep being taught as fact in schools.
In practice many state schools are selective

There is a world of difference between being taught about religions as a child, and being brought into a religion as a child.
RG's point is that young childrens' brains are meant to be impressionable: it's how they are taught to keep themselves safe, in the example.

If moulding a child into religion didn't work more easily than starting them later in life, they wouldn't do it.
We are moulded by society in all sorts of ways, our sense of national identity and patriotism for example. Is supporting Liverpool of being taught history in a certain way any less doctrinal than religion.

His stand up I don’t rate
Same here actually, brilliant, but not for stand up. I think the same about a few comedians, much better comedy actors than stand up.

No, nor is it any more logical.

Although it is usually beyond question that the nation in which you are born, and the football team that your family supports, exist.

I don't think you'll be threatened with eternal damnation if you don't support Liverpool, or justify a holy war against the infidels because of them. Who knows.

I agree that he is an absolutely terrible stand up. But I also think that he is a very limited actor, although not quite as bad as David Mitchell. And as a writer, everything since The Office has got progressively worse.

The Office was of course a classic, then I thought Extras was really good. I don't think I've watched much more to be honest, never really interested me too much.
