Reform defector Tim Montgomerie admits that Farage’s spending plans don’t add up​

Reform UK supporter Tim Montgomerie admitted on BBC Question Time that Nigel Farage has not done the maths on his policy spending spree.

In a speech earlier this week, Farage announced that if his party wins power at the next general election, Reform would back lifting the two-child benefit cap and reverse Labour’s winter fuel cuts.

But on Question Time, presenter Fiona Bruce challenged the credibility of the plans, noting that economists warn they could leave a £100 billion hole in the public finances.

Bruce said to Montgomerie: “Now, you’re a supporter of Reform, but I know you don’t think those numbers add up.”

Nigel might just pull it off, he has the blarney factor , people out there are desperate for the real deal, someone who really means what they say.

Whatever happens there’s zero chance Farage will ever be PM, my guess is he will try and do a slippery deal with Conservatives to win and he slip out the backdoor well before the sh1t hits the fan.

It can be asserted practically no government's spending plans add up. I'm not explicitly defending Reform in saying that, I'm simply saying why expect them to be any different? If anyone's waiting for a party that will actually do a great job when in government, you've got a long wait

They will, quite rightly, start to come under ever increasing scrutiny, in a sense linked to your opening post.

If this country ends up with Reform, it will be because sufficient numbers of people will have voted for them. It is up to the public to ensure they get their news from a range of outlets and to ensure they scrutinise what the parties are offering and how the numbers stack come GE.
