It derives from an attitude of superiority and the 'fair play' of white western culture.
It's based on a racist ideology.
How is there "a right way to take it"?

This isn't a personal attack, so please don't assume it is. It's a perfectly sensible discussion about an idiom in the language and its underlying ideology.

OOI, what motivated the raising of the issue? I don't disagree with the discussion. I think it's a good discussion to have.

I raised it purely because earlier in the day it had popped into my head when I was trying to make a point when posting. It is not about racial superiority as far as I know. It is much older than that. It is about being "as white as snow". In the same way some people might say "as good as gold" or "as black as thunder".

If something or someone is as white as snow, they are perfect or completely uncorrupted and honest

You could ask what factors or policies are important to you when choosing which party to support.
No-one could justifiably refuse to answer, well they could refuse, but on what grounds?

It's all very strange. You see articles like this and, assuming it's factual, you think why aren't the French authorities disabling the vessel before it even gets into the water. Is it some obscure H&S thing, a bit like when our emergency services appear not to assist someone because it would put them in more danger?

Actually I grew up in Edenbridge, went to Tunbridge Wells for school and had a house and factory in East Grinstead, I only moved to Copthorne in 2008 when I met my wife. I live pretty much in the centre of the village not far from the village green.

There is nothing wrong with giving reform a vote nor is it a shamefull thing to do. The lefties hate any party that looks to them as ignoring their softly softly and human rights legislation. Human rights legislation has now gone beyond basic human rights and is crippling countries,.
