There should be no need for co operation - as soon as they are in 6 feet of French water they need rescuing, I have no problem for the RNLI to sail over there and help take them back to the french shore to safety.

No it is you that doesn’t care because you are happy for them to risk their lives up to the 12 mile mark - I would rather save them much nearer to the coast that they lunched from and take them back to the nearest shore - which will be where they came from

Thing is my friend, they are in French waters. Shouldn't the French be 'rescuing' them as soon as they push away from the French shoreline?

Look, the RNLI don't rescue people in British waters and take them to France, do they? No, of course they don't. So, it's the same for the French then....they should be rescuing the illegals who have left French territory and returning them all to whence they came!

I don't think the Royal Navy would want it to happen once, let alone twice or more.

I cannot envisage a situation where our Navy and/or coastguard force a vessel to turn around then, if people fall out, leave them to their fate. I don't even think they'd leave the people if instructed to by the government. And as I say, although they're supposed to stay out of politics, would the King want 'his Navy' to be used in such a manner?

The ship would only have to be in the way with a megaphone. And call up the French lifeboat service.

If the royal navy patrolled at the border of French and English waters and kept the small boats from crossing into our water and the small boat wanted help and they are in distress then they could launch ribs to tow them to the nearest safe port which would be France. Or call the French coast guard to inform them that they have a boat in distress in their waters. Either way they are going back to where they came from.

To all who say we cannot send them back without an agreement with France, that is only if they are in our waters. We don't allow them into our waters is the obvious sollution, the Royal Navy have the resources for this and are here to protect our waters so they are doing their job by protecting our borders so not a waste of money at all. Much cheaper than 1000's of them coming to Britain.
