Stop the carnival

Yeah, I changed the words because you normally scream out to the mods when I mention your name "He's picking on me, boohoo, lock him out of the thread" or some such whinge.

So I take it you can’t tell me how many murders, stabbings, muggings and rapes are carried out at the 46 league matches played each week in the football season?

Let me guess, you don’t like football matches because you don't like the type of people that go to football matches?

Apart from the usual deaths, stabbings, muggings and rapes, what the police and the authorities are now concerned about is another Hillsborough or Heysel style disaster. Do you think it worth taking a chance and just hoping for the best? It’s gotten too out of hand now and should be stopped.

Because by your logic, after all those deaths (the latter being caused by hooliganism) then football should have been banned at the time...

And as for 'out of hand' have you looked at the numbers of sexual assaults, Sunday evening riots and drug deaths at for example the Reading festival?

Again by your logic Reading should be banned because of the 'risk'...

Would you not agree, or is the chance worth taking because it is a festival with mainly a 'white attendance'?
 
just let them get on with it - give the police that night off, let them have their weekend of culture

No, they changed things in football grounds to make them safer and to my knowledge, nobody has been murdered inside a football ground. If I remember correctly, weren’t you the one arguing that one of those killed last year had nothing to do with the carnival because, on a technicality, he was a couple of hundred yards out of the carnival designated area?
 
"We had two murders [last year], 60-odd of my colleagues on average are getting assaulted every carnival, it's been going on for years and it's not acceptable." - quote from MET police federation. It will be interesting to see what happens this time
 
Stabbings: ranged from about 7 to 18 in the years 2017–2024. Average of over 10 per year!

Fatal Violent Deaths: none recorded in 2017–2019, one in 2022, and two in 2024.

Hopefully zero next time, which will only happen if they cancel the event
